About

StreamGearLab is an independent site for people who want to start streaming or making videos and would rather not spend a weekend lost in forum threads. It is run by Rig Riley, a solo creator who is building a streaming setup from scratch and writing down what the documentation actually says along the way.

Why "Lab"?

The name reflects how we approach setups: as experiments to try, adjust and improve. Research-based guides are clearly labelled as research, and any hands-on notes will say when and how something was actually tried.

How guides are written

  • Sources first. Settings, requirements and feature lists are checked against official documentation (for example the OBS Knowledge Base, Twitch and YouTube help centers) and each guide links those sources at the bottom.
  • No invented tests. If we have not personally tested something, we say so. We do not publish made-up benchmark numbers or pretend to have reviewed gear we have not used.
  • Dated and updated. Platforms change their rules often. Each guide shows when it was published or last updated, and we revise guides when a source changes.
  • Corrections welcome. Spot something wrong or out of date? Tell us and we will fix it.

How the site is funded

StreamGearLab is free to read. It may show ads (for example through Google AdSense) and some guides contain affiliate links, which pay us a small commission if you buy something through them at no extra cost to you. Advertisers and affiliate programs do not decide what we recommend. Details are in our affiliate disclosure and privacy policy.
